Ontario has recently introduced the New Photo ID card for non-drivers. This new card will be recognized as a government-issued identification for Ontarians 16 and over who do not drive. This identification card makes it easier to perform everyday transactions such as opening an account or cashing a cheque. The photo card costs $35 dollars and is valid for 5 years. The photo card mirrors the same security features as the driver’s licence to help prevent fraud and identity theft. Due to the seriousness of identity theft, birth certificates and should be kept in a safe place and not carried on your person on a regular basis.
